Really liked your writing, didn't know of this quarrel between these art styles. Got interested in see the differences of Yōga and Nihonga in the propaganda you mentioned. I wouldn't use some terms you used for the Meiji Era, but that's just the historian in me talking. Looking forward to read more of your texts!

Just few things as "feudal" or "archaic" and the changes as "global advances". Not that is untrue that lots of aspects got more modern, but "feudal" is not historically correct and "archaic" kinda gives the impression that the civilization standard is only european. Sorry if I'm being the "Hmmm, actually" guy, it's really not my intention. It's only a thought that came to my mind.

No, all of what you said is a totally valid viewpoint. Feudal, of course, was not used in the literal economic sense but a metaphorical one to point towards a relatively primal setting. We are good.
